Q&A

Q:  I am taking a cruise / I am not on a cruise ship.  Can I take one of your tours?

A:  YES!  Booking with Discover Skagway guarantees the best tour, great guides and...is a great way to save an incedible amount of money.  Yes!  We will provide you a fully narrirated tour, giving you the opportunity to learn more about our valley, whether it is history, geology, wildlife, or life in 1898 our guides will entertain you.

Q:  What is a 'must see' in Skagway?

A: The beauty of the wilderness is why most visitors come to Alaska.  The White Pass Summit gives our visitors a taste of that natural beauty.  Skagway is the only port  that allows you to travel into the interior, and we get to travel into the Costal Mountains!  Giving you the opportunity to enjoy the mountains, valleys, waterfalls, the opportunity to savor the sights and sounds.

Q:  What is the most popular tour?

A:  The White Pass Summit is infamous for its beauty and history.  The White Pass Summit is exactly why the cruise ships make Skagway a stop on the inside passage.  Visitors from all over the world have been coming to enjoy our mountain pass for over a century.  Go along the Klondike Highway so you will be able to get off the vehicle when we stop along the way.  Get out and smell the clean air, take family photos, maybe even see some wildlife!    Going by 'airporter style' buses allows you to go places the train cannot get to and we stop when we see mountain goats or other wildlife.

Q:  What does your tour inlcude?

A:  All tours include the White Pass Summit, the Historic Town Tour, The Scenic Overlook and The Gold Rush Cemetery.  Our tour also includes a fully narrated tour including but not limited to, history, geology, wildlife, and our guides are always willing to answer your questions.  Complimentery pick up and drop off at your ship is yours by request.  All admissions are included if you choose Charlie's Tour or Gwen's Tour or The Super Tour.

Q:  Will we miss our ship's departure?

A:  NO!  Our tours are designed around the Cruise Ship's schedule, we will get you back to your ship in time.  We are reliable although your ship may insinuate differently.  I can't think of a time when any independent tour company was responsible for interferring with a ship's departure.

Q:  Is The Days of '98 Show appropriate for children?

A:  YES!  Thinking we are all children at heart!  It is really up to the parents.  The Show does have dance hall girls, a terrific can can dance and suggestive situations all done in FUN, SONG  and DANCE.  Most younger children tend to miss the the induendows while teens just laugh and enjoy.

Q:  Will we stop for lunch?

A:  No, we are going into the wilderness where there just isn't the opportunity to shop.  You are welcome to bring food and beverage with you on tour.  You may ask the ship for a sack lunch or we have a great cafe across the street from our office, if you would like to purchase lunch 'to go'.

Q:  What should I bring / wear?

A:  Thank you for asking!  Every person is required to bring their passport with them on tour.  Please let us know if children are traveling with someone other than a parent or guardian.  You will want to bring your camera and maybe binoculars.  Please remember Skagway is on the north end of The Tongass National Rainforest.  Early spring and fall can be especially cool.  We suggest you dress in layers and you will want a waterproof/resistant jacket with you just to be prepared.  You are welcome to leave bags and unused items in the vehicle.

Q:  When is the best time to visit?

A: All times are great. Beginning of our season offers snow and water breaking through the ice as it falls thousands of feet.  Mid summer is a delightful time for Jewell Gardens when flowers are their peak, the intense colors, the fragrances and the vegtables are appreciated by all who visit.  First of Aug look for spawning salmon in Skagway’s streams. The Days of ’98 Show performs all season.

Q:  What if the ship does not stop in Skagway?

A:  We will certainly be aware of any changes in the ships schedule.  You will not be charged!  We do have a 48 hour cancellation policy.  If for some reason you choose or you cannot go with us on tour we ask you call in advance and let us know.  We do not accept payment for your tour until tour time.  We ask for a credit card to reserve your seats only.
